Kangertech KBOX 200W Review

Posted by Dex L on

The Kangertech KBOX 200W is a captivating box mod with its simple design and powerful usage that accepts two 18650 battery. Compared to most dual 18650 mods, the KBOX 200W is much thinner in design and includes the same features. The KBOX comes with temperature control like most current regulated box mods and it can push out a maximum output of 200W, which is more than enough power to fire up your atomizer.

Design and Appearance

When it comes to design, the Kangertech is on another level with its simple and beautiful mods and tanks. The KBOX 200W is what you expected from Kanger, with two tone color, round corners, and clean design. The device comes in 3 colors of black, red, and white. The device is not boxy like most box mods out there, and the KBOX holds perfectly in your hand. It might be uncomfortable to hold if you have smaller hands since the device is a dual 18650 mod. But it is still small for a 200W device.

The measurement of the KBOX 200W measures at 86mm height (3.31 inches), 56mm length (2.20 inches) and 22mm wide (0.87 inch). When comparing to the Sigelei 150W, the KBOX is around 17mm shorter in height with 1mm shorter length. While it is smaller than the Sigelei, the KBOX produces more power than the Sigelei. So it shows why the KBOX 200W is known for being one of the smallest 200W mod out in the market. It can be compared to a deck of cards for its size being a little bit thicker.

The mod is made of zinc alloy with an aluminum battery cover. The battery cover comes with multiple air holes in the shape of a K, allocating better battery ventilation to avoid overheating. The bottom of the device comes with more air holes for even more air circulation. The cover can be removed by gripping both sides of the cover and sliding it outward. There wouldn’t be any issue of the battery cover coming out, which is securely in placed.

The bright OLED screen makes viewing the settings and battery life much easier especially in sunny lights. The brightness of the display can be changed into 2 modes, dark and light. The screen displays the resistance of the atomizer, the battery life, current voltage or wattage, and the current wattage or temperature. The buttons on the Kangertech is easy to push and there is clicking sound and feel to it when being pressed down. Right beneath the + and - button is the micro USB port for quick access to charging the device.

The KBOX has an adjustable 510 pin, which is typically standard in most modern box mods allowing you to use different types of 510 tanks and RBAs to fit securely into the device.

Usage and Performance

Besides being an attractive dual 18650 box mod, the KBOX 200W performance is what this device is all about. Packing a 200W output using two 18650 batteries, the mod will power the atomizers to incredible vapor production. Typically 200W is never needed, but it is good knowing you are able to crank up the device up to 200W. But in order to obtain 200W output, the two batteries will need to be fully charged. Wattage is adjusted in 0.1W increments for fine tuning, and going as low as 7W. In wattage mode, the KBOX will accept atomizers as low as 0.10ohm. It can pretty much power most sub ohm tanks will ease, especially when it has a maximum output of 200W.

In temperature mode, the mod can reach up to 315°C or 600°F with 1° adjustment compared to the usual 10°. TC mode supports 4 type of coils of Nickel 200, Titanium, Ni-chrome, and Stainless Steel. Pressing the fire button 3 times will allow you to change the TC setting to the correct coil being used. Make sure you have the atomizer attached on the mod before changing the mode, so it will have an accurate reading. The KBOX 200W will take resistance as low as 0.05ohm when using temperature control coil. The chipset on the mod will monitor the rate 1000 times per second to ensure temperature accuracy and provide consistency.

Adjusting the settings for the KBOX 200W is easy. To turn on and off the device, press the fire button 5 times rapidly, just like most of the devices out there. Pressing the + and - button will simply adjust the wattage or temperature, and holding down the button will speed up the adjustments. Change the mode can be done by pressing the firing button 3 times, and using the + and – buttons.

You can flip the screen depending on which sided hand you are by holding down the + and – button for 3 seconds. The brightness on the screen can be change to dark mode or light mode by holding down the + and firing button for 3 seconds. It will switch back if you hold down again for another 3 seconds. You are able to lock the buttons to prevent accidental adjustment by holding down all three buttons, and then the screen will display “Lock”. The firing button will still be able to work though, but freezing the adjustment buttons.

As for charging the device, it would be recommended using an external charger for better balanced charging. While the micro USB port is convenient, batteries will be better charged with an external charger. The micro USB port is good to charge the device on the go like during a car ride since it uses a micro USB cable, which is used with many types of devices. The micro USB port also allows you to upgrade to the newest firmware via micro USB cable, but so far, there has not been an update yet.

Conclusion

The Kanger KBOX 200W is a powerful compact box mod using dual 18650 batteries. Of course, when using high wattage, the batteries will drain out somewhat quickly but knowing you have the capability to power the atomizer up to 200W is pretty cool if you are looking for huge clouds. The design is very stunning with a glossy and clean appearance, but it can be prone to scratches. The 5 modes are useful when using different types of tanks and coils allowing you to choose the correct TC settings. Adjustments are easy to do and quick.

The price is very affordable for a 200W box mod going for under $50. You can’t go wrong with what you pay for this device. The mod does not include a micro USB cable if you plan on using internal charging.
